Call For Abstracts - RCND 2015 - Extended April 30

The Department of Civil Engineering, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines invites researchers, professors, students and practitioners on DRRM to submit abstracts for the 3rd AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Natural Disaster (RCND 2015) to be held in Manila on Sept 25-26, 2015. The conference is supported by JICA.

    

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES: The 3rd AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Natural Disaster banners the theme, "Building Resilient Communities." The theme  and sub-themes emphasize the need to focus on how to reduce or avoid hazards and reduce vulnerabilities so that we can reduce disaster risks. Reduced disaster risks leads to safer structures and improved safety to the people. Reduced disaster risks also leads to sustainability since there will be less damage to infrastructures and less wastage of resources and less impact to the people which translates to better living conditions. When we protect our people, assets and infrastructures, we increase the people’s resilience and health, preserve our resources and maintain the balance between built and natural environment.

SUBTHEMES: Submit abstracts that fall under the following subthemes:

  • I.  Understanding Hazards. Researches, studies on phenomena, historical profiling, modelling, instrumentation and monitoring aimed at better understanding of phenomena and  impacts of floods, storm surge, tsunami, earthquakes, landslides, liquefaction, climate change and variability, volcanoes and other natural hazards.

  • II. Assessing Vulnerabilities and Disaster Risks. Includes Vulnerability Assessments (Structural, Non-structural, social and economic vulnerability assessments) and researches on various aspects of disaster vulnerability and risk assessment (rapid and detailed, deterministic and probabilistic risk assessment methods), survey and evaluation methods: principles, tools and application. 

  • III. Reducing Disaster Risks (Structural and non-structural retrofitting and strengthening of structures and systems for disaster and climate change risk reduction----essentially engineering based approaches). Includes structural and engineering technologies and applications aimed to improve building and infrastructural system safety, structural health monitoring.

  • IV. Planning for Risks. Includes land use planning and zoning, urban redevelopment, urban renewal, government regulations, hazard mapping and GIS. 
  • V. Increasing People's Resilience. Community-based disaster risk awareness and preparedness, community early warning and monitoring, emergency management, use of communication and technology, safe schools and hospitals, disaster education and training, emergency drills

 Important Dates:


  • March 31, 2015 - Deadline of submission of abstracts (max. 500 words)- EXTENDED to April 30, 2015
  • May 31, 2015 - Notification of acceptance of abstracts
  • July 31, 2015 - Deadline of extended abstracts (2 pages)
  • Sept 25-26, 2015 - Conference
